Food to Avoid on a Date

Was with Kenneth Cole at Bedok Food Centre and to quote Makansutra the die die must try item I need to feed every single time I'm there is the gu chai (chives) kueh. It's an acquired taste for some due to its sometimes pungent smell – you love it or you hate it. Today, the chives hit back at me. After the meal, I have the problem of having green veneers instead of my usual whites. Of course if you have been attached for a while, having food stuck in between your teeth just invite juvenile ragging from your other half. Chances are if you are on a first date, it's a huge booboo. That's what the shiny silver spoons are for in fancy restaurants, you discreetly smile into it. So besides chives, here's my top 6 (sorry but its such a cliché to count to ten) list of food to avoid on your first date:

1. Black sesame paste dessert (for obvious teeth colouring reason)
2. Sotong hitam (see reason above)
3. Squid ink pasta (see reason above)
4. Tulang (banging bones on plates tend to cultivate a splattering of sauce)
5. Scissors rice or jian dao fan (this is just personal, but the rice served is always clumpy and overdosed with curry...bleah)
6. Any food using disposable wooden chopsticks (I had a splinter once in my gums)

Throw in garlic-anything.

Nothing kills a passionate kiss faster. :)

Also just to add, avoid anything that is likened to chilli crab sauces... least you'll find interesting specks of red on your teeth. Ya so, definitely go check your teeth first before saying "Cheese".
