Love + Technology don't mix...

We all relish at the advent of technologies and the embrace of it to enhance our lives in work, or play. With technology, communication becomes much simpler. Just to mention a few, IM (MSN, Yahoo, Skype etc), IP telephony, emails, phone, texting, or even with social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Friendster etc.

As we ride on the superhighway of technology and the sophisticated communication methods, yes, they make us all the more efficient. So what happens if we're speaking in the context of LOVE. I suppose they do help in communication when it comes to keeping the 'flame alive' when the couple is in a long distance relationship. But i find it sorely cold when we're talking about the modern day context of courtship and love (within the same geographical location).

We've embraced technology so much that we displace the traditional means of listening to his/her voice, going on dates/spending time with each other and perhaps even writing love letters/cards seem stoneage. The result: Absolute coldness which is totally impersonal.

My observations:
+ Men would rather IM than pick up the phone to talk to the girl that they are pursuing or currently seeing.
+ Men would rather text than talk on the phone.
+ Use IM to confront emotional issues rather than talk Face to face.
+ And recently, communicate a break up via text. ("Wuss!" - As Sea Monkey aptly labels him.)

Are the modern men of today really that non-confrontational? Why do they have to hide behind technology to speak their mind and not face issues like a MAN?

I guess what i'm saying here is, technology is good... and using technology to some extent in a relationship is still acceptable. But understanding the essence of the word "Balance" is key. That said in any given healthy relationship, there should be good dose of communication between the couple either via phone, and time spent together.

Then again... i'm just ranting, and perhaps the guys i've been out with are pure jerks. So then where have all the good men gone?

Good riddance to bad rubbish.. i dun think the good ones are meant to be discovered online, no yet anyway. At least he didnt use the excuse of being a "devil-worshipper" like some chick o craigslist. Now that, would be really sad.
